Dumbbell Lateral Raise Plank

A high plank on two dumbbells in which one arm at a time lifts its bell out to the side; the trunk refuses to rotate.

How to do it

Setup

High plank with the hands on two dumbbells under the shoulders, feet wide.

Steps

  1. Raise one bell out to the side to shoulder height.
  2. Keep the hips square to the floor.
  3. Set it down under the shoulder and lift the other.

Common mistakes

Hips turning open with the raise: widen the feet and brace. Swinging the bell up: lift it slowly with a straight arm. Dumbbells rolling under the hands: use bells that sit flat.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
