Plank Lateral Raise

In a high plank on straight arms, lift one straight arm out to the side to shoulder height and set it back, then the other.

How to do it

Setup

High plank, hands under the shoulders, feet a little wider than the hips, body in one line.

Steps

  1. Shift onto one hand and lift the other arm out to the side.
  2. Raise it to shoulder height with the hips square to the floor.
  3. Set the hand back under the shoulder and lift the other arm.

Common mistakes

Hips turning as the arm opens: widen the feet and slow the lift. Supporting shoulder sinking: push the floor away with that hand. Arm swinging up and dropping: raise and lower it under control.

Breathing

Exhale on each raise, inhale lowering.
