Negative Front Lever Raise

The front lever raise done as a slow lowering: from an inverted hang, the straight body lowers under the bar to horizontal as slowly as it can.

How to do it

Setup

Hanging from a bar, overhand grip, the body inverted and straight with the feet above the hips.

Steps

  1. Lower the straight body slowly away from the bar, arms locked.
  2. Stop when the body is level under the bar and hold a beat.
  3. Tuck the knees and roll back up to the inverted hang.

Common mistakes

Dropping fast through the bottom: the slow lowering is the whole exercise. Bending the arms: they stay locked; the lats do the work. Hips sagging below the line: squeeze the glutes and keep the body straight.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
