Mixed-Grip Chin-Up

The chin-up with one palm facing you and the other facing away; switch which hand is under every set so both sides get the same work.

How to do it

Setup

Dead hang, hands shoulder-width, one hand underhand and the other overhand, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Pull the chin over the bar, keeping the shoulders level.
  2. Lower to a full hang with control.
  3. Swap the grips for the next set.

Common mistakes

Body twisting toward the overhand side: keep the chest square to the bar. The same hand underhand every set: alternate it set by set. Chin passing the bar off to one side: rise straight up the middle.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
