Lying Flat Hip Raise

Lying on a flat bench holding it behind the head, legs straight up, lift the hips off the bench to drive the feet toward the ceiling.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on a flat bench, hands gripping it behind the head, legs straight and pointing at the ceiling.

Steps

  1. Lift the hips off the bench, pushing the feet straight up.
  2. Keep the legs vertical; the hips do the rising.
  3. Lower the hips slowly back to the bench.

Common mistakes

Swinging the legs back over the head: the feet go straight up, not toward the face. Bending the knees to kick up: straight legs, a smaller lift. Dropping the hips: lower them as slowly as they rose.

Breathing

Exhale curling up, inhale lowering.
