Lean Planche

From a push-up position, lean the shoulders far forward past the hands with the feet still on the floor; the entry drill of the planche.

How to do it

Setup

Push-up position on straight arms, hands turned out beside the waist, body in one line, on the toes.

Steps

  1. Shift the shoulders forward past the wrists, arms straight.
  2. Hold the lean with the body straight and the blades pushed apart.
  3. Shift back over the hands to rest.

Common mistakes

Bending the elbows as you lean: keep them locked and lean less. Hips sagging: brace the belly and squeeze the glutes. Shoulders sinking between the blades: push the floor away and round the upper back slightly.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
