High Knee Squat

Squat, then stand and drive one knee up to hip height on the way out; switch the knee every rep.

How to do it

Setup

Feet shoulder-width, hands behind the head, elbows wide.

Steps

  1. Squat down with the chest up.
  2. Stand and drive one knee up to hip height, balancing on the other leg.
  3. Set the foot down into the next squat and lift the other knee.

Common mistakes

Rushing the squat to get to the knee: full squat, then the drive. Leaning back to lift the knee: stand tall over the standing foot. Pulling the head forward with the hands: they rest behind the head.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale on the way up.
