Jack Jump

From a squat, jump and lift both straight legs up and apart in front, reaching the hands toward the shins; a gymnast's straddle jump.

How to do it

Setup

Feet hip-width, squatting down with the hands low in front.

Steps

  1. Jump straight up hard from the squat.
  2. At the top, lift both straight legs apart and reach the hands toward them.
  3. Bring the legs back down under the hips and land soft in the squat.

Common mistakes

Lifting the legs before the jump peaks: height first, then the straddle. Landing with the legs still apart: bring them under the hips first. Folding the chest down to the feet: lift the legs to the hands instead.

Breathing

Exhale on the jump, inhale landing.
