Hawaiian Squat
A single-leg squat with the free ankle crossed over the standing knee; the crossed hip opens as you sink.
How to do it
Setup
On one leg, the other ankle resting across the standing knee, arms out in front.
Steps
- Sit the hips back and down on the standing leg.
- Let the crossed knee drop open as you sink.
- Stand up tall without uncrossing the legs.
Common mistakes
Ankle sliding down the shin: rest it above the kneecap. Standing heel lifting: sit back further and go less deep. Rounding to get lower: chest up; the depth comes with practice.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
