Dumbbell Side Squat

The lateral squat holding one dumbbell upright at the chest: from a wide stance, shift into one leg and squat, the other leg straight.

How to do it

Setup

Very wide stance, toes mostly forward, one dumbbell held upright at the chest.

Steps

  1. Shift the weight over one leg and sit into it.
  2. Keep the other leg straight and its foot flat.
  3. Push back through the middle and squat to the other side.

Common mistakes

Dumbbell drifting away from the chest: hold it close. Heel of the bent leg lifting: sit back into that hip. Rounding over the knee: chest up, depth later.

Breathing

Inhale sitting in, exhale shifting up.
