Lateral Step-Up with Knee Drive

The lateral step-up that finishes with the free knee driven up to hip height, standing balanced on the box leg before stepping back down.

How to do it

Setup

Standing side-on to a low step, the near foot flat on it, arms relaxed.

Steps

  1. Press through the foot on the step and stand up on it.
  2. Drive the free knee up to hip height and balance for a beat.
  3. Step back down under control; finish the side, switch.

Common mistakes

Pushing off the floor foot: the leg on the step does the lifting. Knee on the step caving inward: keep it over the toes. Leaning over the step to balance the knee drive: stand tall on the working leg.

Breathing

Exhale stepping up, inhale down.
