Hanging Leg Hip Raise

Hanging from a bar, tuck the knees to the chest and keep going, rolling the hips up; the hip roll is what sets it apart from the knee raise.

How to do it

Setup

Dead hang from a bar, hands shoulder-width, legs together and still.

Steps

  1. Draw the knees up toward the chest.
  2. Keep rolling the pelvis up so the hips rise toward the bar.
  3. Lower the hips first, then the legs, back to a still hang.

Common mistakes

Stopping when the thighs are level: the rep finishes with the hips rolled up. Swinging to throw the hips up: pause dead still between reps. Arms bending to help: they stay long; the abs curl the pelvis.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
