Long Lever Decline Sit-Up

The decline sit-up with the arms held straight overhead throughout; the long arms make the whole rise harder.

How to do it

Setup

On a decline bench, feet hooked under the pads, arms straight overhead in line with the ears.

Steps

  1. Curl up to sitting, the arms staying in line with the ears.
  2. Stop with the torso upright, the arms pointing at the ceiling.
  3. Lower down the slope slowly, the arms still overhead.

Common mistakes

Swinging the arms forward to get up: they stay overhead; that is the exercise. Dropping back down the slope: lower under control. Arching the lower back at the bottom: brace and curl through the spine.

Breathing

Exhale sitting up, inhale rolling down.
