Half Sun Salutation

A short yoga flow on the breath: arms up, fold forward, half lift with a long back, fold again and rise to standing.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet together or hip-width, palms together at the chest.

Steps

  1. Sweep the arms up overhead and lengthen the spine.
  2. Fold forward from the hips, hands toward the floor, knees soft if needed.
  3. Lift halfway with a flat back, hands on the shins.
  4. Fold again, then rise with a long back, hands back to the chest.

Common mistakes

Rounding the back to reach the floor: bend the knees and fold from the hips. Rushing ahead of the breath: one movement to each breath. Tipping the head back as the arms go up: the neck stays long.

Breathing

Inhale reaching up and lifting halfway, exhale folding.
