Sun Salutation A
A flow of poses, one movement to each breath: arms up, fold, plank, lowering, upward and downward dog, and back.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, feet together, arms at the sides.
Steps
- Sweep the arms up, fold, then lift halfway, back long.
- Step back to a plank and lower, elbows by the ribs.
- Press into upward dog, then back into downward dog.
- Step forward, lift halfway, then fold.
- Rise with the arms overhead and lower them.
Common mistakes
Hips sagging on the lowering: one line, or lower from the knees. Racing the breath: one movement per inhale or exhale. Rounding in the folds: bend the knees, lead with the chest.
Breathing
Inhale rising, exhale folding and lowering.
