Flying Lizard Yoga Pose Utthan Pristhasana
An arm balance built from the lizard lunge: the elbows bend, the front knee rests on the back of the upper arm, and both feet leave the floor.
How to do it
Setup
Lizard lunge with both hands inside the front foot, the front knee tucked behind the same-side upper arm, the back leg long.
Steps
- Bend the elbows toward 90° and rest the front thigh on the upper arm.
- Lean forward over the hands until the back leg lifts, then the front foot.
- Hold with the elbows over the wrists and the gaze ahead; breathe.
- Lower the front foot, then the back one, and switch sides.
Common mistakes
Tipping onto the face: lean in a little at a time over a folded mat. Elbows splaying out to the sides: keep them hugging in over the wrists. Forcing the front hip before it opens: build up in the lizard until the knee reaches the arm easily.
Breathing
Steady throughout; never held.
