Stick Lat Stretch

Hands stacked on an upright stick, hinge forward until the chest sinks below the straight arms; the lats and triceps lengthen.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, a stick planted upright a step ahead, both hands stacked on its top at chest height.

Steps

  1. Hinge at the hips, sliding them back, arms straight.
  2. Let the head and chest drop below the arms.
  3. Hold and breathe, then rise slowly to standing.

Common mistakes

Leaning your weight onto the stick: it only steadies you; keep the weight in the feet. Stick sliding out: plant its end firmly on a non-slip floor. Bending the elbows: keep the arms straight so the lats stretch.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
