Dumbbell Standing Alternate Overhead Press
The standing dumbbell press one arm at a time from a neutral grip: bells in front of the shoulders, palms facing, one rising while the other waits.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, feet shoulder-width, both bells held palms in at the front of the shoulders.
Steps
- Press one bell straight up, keeping the palm in.
- Hold the other bell still at the shoulder.
- Lower, then press the other side.
Common mistakes
Hips swaying toward the pressing side: glutes tight, stand square. Palms turning forward near lockout: the neutral grip holds from the shoulder to the top. Elbow swinging out wide on the way up: it starts in front and drives straight up.
Breathing
Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
