Dumbbell Standing One-Arm Palm In Press

One dumbbell pressed overhead with the palm facing in while the free hand rests on the hip; the trunk stays upright against the one-sided load.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, feet hip-width, one dumbbell at the shoulder with the palm facing in, the other hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Press the bell straight up, palm still facing in.
  2. Keep the shoulders level as the arm straightens.
  3. Lower to the shoulder; finish the set, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Bending sideways away from the bell: stand tall; the trunk resists the lean. Palm rotating forward at the top: hold the neutral grip. Pressing the bell out to the side: drive it straight over the shoulder.

Breathing

Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
