Dumbbell Seated One-Arm Shoulder Press

The seated dumbbell press with one arm while the other rests; the seat takes the legs out, and the trunk keeps the shoulders level against the single bell.

How to do it

Setup

Seated tall on a bench, one dumbbell at the shoulder, palm forward, the free hand on the thigh.

Steps

  1. Press the bell to lockout over the shoulder.
  2. Keep the shoulders level and the torso still.
  3. Lower to the shoulder; finish the set, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Leaning toward the free side to finish: sit tall; the lean steals the lockout. Pressing the bell forward of the head: finish over the shoulder. Dropping it to the shoulder: lower as slowly as you pressed.

Breathing

Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
