Dumbbell Half-Kneeling Single-Arm Shoulder Press

The one-arm dumbbell press from half-kneeling, the knee under the pressing arm down; with the hips locked by the stance, any lean shows at once.

How to do it

Setup

Half-kneeling, the knee on the pressing side down, the other foot flat in front, a dumbbell at the shoulder.

Steps

  1. Brace the trunk and tighten the glute on the down side.
  2. Press the bell up to a straight arm over the shoulder.
  3. Lower to the shoulder; after the set, switch the arm and the knee together.

Common mistakes

Leaning away from the bell: stay stacked over the down knee. Front knee drifting in: keep it over the foot. Pressing with the wrong knee down: the down knee sits on the pressing side.

Breathing

Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
