Dumbbell Front Raise

One dumbbell held in both hands and raised in front to shoulder height on straight arms; the body stays still.

How to do it

Setup

Stand tall, one dumbbell held by its handle in both hands in front of the thighs.

Steps

  1. Raise the bell with straight arms to shoulder height.
  2. Pause with the bell level with the shoulders.
  3. Lower it slowly to the thighs.

Common mistakes

Swinging up with the hips: dead stop at the thighs. Raising past shoulder height: stop level; above it the traps take over. Leaning back as the arms rise: ribs down, a lighter bell.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
