Dumbbell Half-Kneeling Military Press

Both dumbbells pressed together from a half-kneeling stance; the down knee locks the hips, so a lean back has nowhere to hide.

How to do it

Setup

Half-kneeling, one knee down and the other foot flat in front, both knees near 90°, a dumbbell at each shoulder.

Steps

  1. Squeeze the glute of the down leg.
  2. Press both bells to lockout over the shoulders.
  3. Lower to the shoulders; switch the front leg between sets.

Common mistakes

Hips sagging back toward the heel: stay tall over the down knee. Ribs flaring as the bells rise: brace before each press. Knee on a hard floor: pad it; the kneel should not be what you feel.

Breathing

Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
