Doorway Pec Stretch, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Stand in a doorway with one forearm flat on the frame, elbow at about shoulder height.

Steps

  1. Step through with the same-side foot until the chest opens.
  2. Keep that shoulder pressed down and the ribs from flaring.
  3. Hold there, then switch arms and match the time.

Common mistakes

Stepping so far that the shoulder aches: this is a stretch, not a test. Flaring the ribs and arching the back instead of opening the chest. Shrugging the working shoulder up to the ear.

Breathing

Exhale as you step through, then breathe slowly in the hold.
