Assisted Standing Chest Stretch

A partner behind you holds one straight arm at the elbow and the wrist and draws it back at shoulder height; the chest and the front of the shoulder stretch.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, one arm straight out to the side at shoulder height, a partner behind holding it at the elbow and the wrist.

Steps

  1. Let the partner draw the arm back slowly until the chest stretches.
  2. Keep the torso facing forward and the shoulder down.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Partner pulling in jerks: agree on a slow draw and say stop at a firm pull. Turning the body after the arm: the chest stays square and only the arm travels. Shoulder hitching up to the ear: let it sit low before the pull starts.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
