Assisted Seated Chest Stretch

Seated on the floor, a partner behind braces the back with a shin and draws one straight arm back at shoulder height; the floor keeps the hips still.

How to do it

Setup

Seated tall on the floor, legs long, one arm straight out at shoulder height, a partner behind with a shin at your back.

Steps

  1. Sit tall against the partner's shin, the shoulders down.
  2. Let the partner take the wrist and draw the arm back until the chest stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Slumping into the partner's leg: sit tall on your own and only touch it. The arm hauled back in one go: agree on a slow draw and a word for stop. Twisting toward the held arm: keep the chest facing forward.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
