Cable Standing Calf Raise

The standing calf raise on a bench in front of a cable stack, the low cable clipped to a hip belt instead of a bar on the back.

How to do it

Setup

Balls of the feet on the bench's edge, heels hanging, knees straight, the low cable clipped to a hip belt, hands on the frame.

Steps

  1. Stand tall so the cable pulls straight down through the hips.
  2. Rise onto the toes as high as the ankles allow and pause.
  3. Lower until the heels sink below the bench into a stretch.

Common mistakes

Pulling on the frame to rise: the hands only balance you. Bending the knees to heave the plates: legs straight, less weight. Bouncing out of the bottom: pause in the stretch.

Breathing

Exhale rising, inhale lowering.
