Barbell Standing Rocking Leg Calf Raise

The barbell calf raise that rocks both ways: up onto the toes, then back onto the heels with the toes lifted.

How to do it

Setup

Bar across the upper back, feet hip-width on flat floor, weight over mid-foot.

Steps

  1. Rise onto the balls of the feet and pause.
  2. Rock back onto the heels, toes lifted toward the shins.
  3. Keep the bar over mid-foot at both ends.

Common mistakes

Hips swaying to rock the bar: pivot at the ankles only. Swinging through the middle: pause at each end. Toes barely leaving the floor: pull them toward the shins every rock.

Breathing

Exhale rising, inhale lowering.
