Cable Lying Upright Row

The cable upright row done lying face up with the feet toward a low pulley; lying down keeps the torso and hips out of it.

How to do it

Setup

Lying face up, feet toward a low pulley, bar on the thighs, overhand grip shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Pull the bar along the body toward the chest, elbows leading out.
  2. Stop when the elbows reach shoulder level.
  3. Let the bar slide back to the thighs with control.

Common mistakes

Bar lifting off the body: it travels close along the torso. Elbows passing shoulder level: stop there; further crowds the joint. Letting the stack snap the bar back: return as slowly as you pulled.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
