Box Single-Leg Assisted Pull-Up

The pull-up with only one foot on a box below the bar, the other leg hanging; one leg helps, so the arms take more than with both feet down.

How to do it

Setup

Hang from the bar, overhand grip, one foot on a box under you with that knee bent, the other leg hanging free.

Steps

  1. Pull with the arms, pressing lightly through the foot on the box.
  2. Rise until the chin clears the bar.
  3. Lower slowly; switch the supporting leg on the next set.

Common mistakes

Stepping up on the box leg: it assists, it does not stand you up. Hips twisting toward the box: keep them square under the bar. Always the same leg on the box: alternate between sets.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
