Bodyweight Rope Pull-Up

The pull-up gripping two short ropes that hang from the bar, palms facing each other; the thick, moving ropes make the grip work as hard as the back.

How to do it

Setup

Two ropes hanging from the bar shoulder-width apart, one in each hand, arms straight, knees bent.

Steps

  1. Squeeze the ropes and pull the hands down toward the shoulders.
  2. Rise until the chin is level with the hands.
  3. Lower to straight arms without letting the hands slide.

Common mistakes

Hands slipping down the ropes: squeeze harder or take fewer reps. Ropes swinging apart: keep the hands in line with the shoulders. Pulling with a loose grip and bent wrists: wrap the hands fully around the rope.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
