Assisted Chin-Up (Squat Position)

The chin-up from a deep squat under a bar at head height: the legs stand the body up while the arms pull the chin over the bar.

How to do it

Setup

Underhand grip on a bar at head height, feet flat below it, sunk into a deep squat with the arms straight.

Steps

  1. Drive up through the feet as the arms pull.
  2. Finish standing with the chin over the bar, elbows by the ribs.
  3. Sit back down into the squat with control, arms long again.

Common mistakes

Jumping out of the squat: a steady push, no bounce. Letting the legs do everything: pull hard enough that the legs only help. Heels lifting in the squat: keep the whole foot down.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
