Box-Assisted Pull-Up
The pull-up with the feet resting on a box behind you, knees bent, pushing through the legs only as much as the arms need.
How to do it
Setup
Hang from the bar, overhand grip, a box behind you with both feet on it and the knees bent.
Steps
- Pull with the arms and push lightly through the feet.
- Bring the chin over the bar, using as little leg as you can.
- Lower slowly until the arms are straight.
Common mistakes
Standing up on the box: the legs only help; the back pulls. Box too far behind to reach at the bottom: set it where the feet rest with the arms straight. Using the same push forever: take a little less leg each week.
Breathing
Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
