Bodyweight Single-Leg Squat with Support

The skater squat holding a rack's crossbar; the grip steadies the balance and takes a little of the load, so full depth comes sooner.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a rack, hands on a bar at hip height, standing on one leg, the other knee bent behind.

Steps

  1. Bend the standing knee and sink until the back knee is just above the floor.
  2. Let the hands steady you, never pull you up.
  3. Drive up through the standing heel, the grip as light as the rep allows.

Common mistakes

Rowing yourself up with the arms: the leg stands you up; the hands only steady. Back knee crashing down: lower under control and stop just above the floor. Free foot touching down to help: keep it off the floor.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
