Body Saw Plank

The forearm plank rocked forward and back from the shoulders like a saw, the toes rolling with it; the farther the body travels past the elbows, the harder the abs fight to hold the line.

How to do it

Setup

Forearm plank, elbows under the shoulders, feet together on the toes, body one straight line.

Steps

  1. Push the body back from the shoulders, the toes rolling.
  2. Pull it forward past the elbows as far as the line holds.
  3. Keep sawing back and forth at a steady pace; time it.

Common mistakes

Hips sagging as you reach forward: shorten the saw until the line holds. Hips piking to make it easier: glutes tight, body flat. Moving at the hips instead of the shoulders: the arms drive; the body stays one piece.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
