Big Turn Back Stretch

Side-on to a wall with one straight arm back on it at shoulder height, turn the body away; the chest and the front of the shoulder open.

How to do it

Setup

Side-on to a wall in a split stance, the near arm straight back with the palm on the wall at shoulder height.

Steps

  1. Turn the chest away from the wall until the front of the shoulder stretches.
  2. Keep the palm fixed and the arm at shoulder height.
  3. Hold and breathe, then turn back and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Hand sliding up the wall: keep it at shoulder height. Turning fast into the stretch: ease round and stop at a firm pull. Shoulder rolling forward: keep it back and down as you turn.

Breathing

Exhale into the turn, then breathe evenly in the hold.
