Bent-Over Twist

Hinged forward in a wide stance with a stick in both hands, turn the trunk until the stick stands upright, then turn back.

How to do it

Setup

Feet wide, knees soft, hinged forward with a flat back, a stick held in both hands, hands wide apart.

Steps

  1. Turn the chest to one side until the stick stands upright, top arm high.
  2. Keep the hips still and the back flat as you turn.
  3. Turn back until the stick lies across the body again.
  4. Finish the set, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Rounding the back as you turn: keep the hinge flat and turn from the ribs. Hips turning with the chest: keep the pelvis square to the floor. Swinging the stick fast: turn slowly to the end and back.

Breathing

Exhale turning up, inhale turning back.
