Stick Side Bend Stretch
A stick held overhead in a wide grip, the trunk bends deep to one side until the stick stands upright, then to the other; the long lever stretches the whole side.
How to do it
Setup
Standing with the feet wide, a stick overhead in a wide grip, arms straight.
Steps
- Bend sideways until the stick points up and down beside the body.
- Keep both arms straight and the hips square to the front.
- Come up through the middle and bend to the other side.
Common mistakes
Bending the elbows to drop lower: the straight arms are the lever; keep them long. Hips swinging out to the side: keep them over the feet. Rushing from side to side: pause at the bottom of each bend.
Breathing
Exhale into each bend, inhale coming up.
