Stick Twist Lunge Stretch

Holding a stick at the hips with straight arms, step into a deep lunge and turn the trunk and the stick toward the front leg, then return to standing; the hips and the waist open together.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a stick held across the front of the hips in a wide overhand grip, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Step into a deep lunge, the back knee just above the floor.
  2. Turn the chest and the stick toward the front leg, the hips square.
  3. Turn back to the middle, step the feet together and switch legs.

Common mistakes

Front knee caving in as you turn: keep it over the middle toes. Twisting from the hips: the hips face forward and the chest turns. Back knee slamming the floor: lower it under control and stop just above.

Breathing

Exhale into the turn, inhale turning back.
