Dumbbell Wood Chop Squat
The wood chop with a dumbbell and a squat: the bell travels from overhead on one side down across the body to the outside of the opposite knee as the hips sit.
How to do it
Setup
Feet wider than the shoulders, one dumbbell held in both hands overhead to one side.
Steps
- Chop the bell down across the body to the outside of the opposite knee, sitting into a squat.
- Let the trunk turn with the bell, knees tracking over the toes.
- Drive up out of the squat and bring the bell back overhead on the same diagonal.
Common mistakes
Rounding the back to reach the knee: sit the hips down instead. Knees caving as you twist: keep them over the toes. Arms doing the chop: the trunk turns and the legs drive; the arms stay long.
Breathing
Exhale on the chop, inhale rising.
