How to do it

Setup

Feet shoulder-width, dumbbell on the floor between them; hinge down and grip it, back flat.

Steps

  1. Drive the hips through and pull the bell close to the body.
  2. As it passes the chest, punch it straight overhead.
  3. Lock out, then lower it back down in two stages; switch arms.

Common mistakes

Arm-lifting from the floor: the power is the hip snap; the arm finishes, it doesn't start. Bell swinging away from the body: keep it brushing close. Soft lockout overhead: a firm straight arm before it comes down.

Breathing

Inhale at the bottom, sharp exhale through the snatch.
