Bodyweight Wood Chop Squat

With the hands clasped, chop from above one shoulder down to the outside of the opposite knee as you squat, then rise and lift them back up the diagonal.

How to do it

Setup

Feet a little wider than the shoulders, hands clasped with straight arms above one shoulder.

Steps

  1. Squat down as the hands chop across to the outside of the opposite knee.
  2. Let the heel on the starting side lift and turn with the hips.
  3. Stand and sweep the hands back up the same diagonal.

Common mistakes

Chopping with the arms while the legs stay straight: the squat and the turn happen together. Knees caving at the bottom: push them out over the toes. Rounding the back to reach low: squat deeper instead of bending over.

Breathing

Exhale on the chop, inhale returning.
