Medicine Ball Lunge with Twist
The lunge with a turn toward the front leg at the bottom, a medicine ball pressed to the chest in both hands; the ball turns with the ribs, not out at arm's length.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, the ball held against the chest, hands on its sides, elbows down.
Steps
- Step forward into the lunge and sink the back knee toward the floor.
- Turn the ribs and the ball over the front thigh.
- Face forward again, push back to standing and switch legs.
Common mistakes
Ball drifting out to arm's length: keep it against the chest so the trunk does the turning. Front knee swinging in with the turn: it points straight ahead. Starting the turn mid-step: land the lunge first, then rotate.
Breathing
Inhale into the lunge, exhale on the twist and drive.
