Barbell Overhead Carry
Walk with a barbell locked out overhead on straight arms; the long bar magnifies every wobble, so the shoulders and trunk work each step.
How to do it
Setup
Bar pressed or jerked to lockout overhead, grip a little wider than the shoulders, biceps by the ears, ribs down.
Steps
- Walk with short, even steps, the bar over the middle of the feet.
- Keep the elbows locked and the bar level.
- Stop, then lower the bar to the shoulders before setting it down.
Common mistakes
Bar drifting in front of the head: keep it stacked over the shoulders and feet. Arching the lower back to hold it up: ribs down, glutes tight. Dropping the bar from overhead at the end: bring it down to the shoulders first.
Breathing
Steady throughout the walk.
