Band Assisted Chin-Up
The underhand chin-up with a band looped over the bar under a foot or a knee; the band helps most at the bottom, where it is stretched the most.
How to do it
Setup
Band looped over the bar, one foot or one knee in the loop, underhand grip shoulder-width, arms straight.
Steps
- Pull the chin over the bar, elbows down to the ribs.
- Lower slowly, not letting the band bounce the body back up.
- Swap to a lighter band when the reps come easily.
Common mistakes
Bouncing off the stretched band: pause at the bottom until it settles. Foot slipping out of the loop: set it deep in the band before the first rep. Chin poking at the bar: the chest rises to it, the neck stays long.
Breathing
Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
