Wide-Grip Chest Dip on High Parallel Bars

The chest dip on tall free-standing bars set wider than the shoulders; the wide hands shift more of the dip to the chest.

How to do it

Setup

Bars set wider than the shoulders, arms locked, body hanging straight, feet off the floor.

Steps

  1. Lower slowly, elbows moving out to the sides.
  2. Lean the chest slightly forward near the bottom.
  3. Press back up to locked elbows at the top.

Common mistakes

Bars set so wide the shoulders ache at the bottom: bring them in a little. Sinking below a comfortable stretch: the wide grip already loads the shoulder; stop there. Bars that rock: use a stable pair on flat ground.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale on the press.
