Weighted Sandbag Military Press
The standing military press with a sandbag held by its side handles; the shifting fill makes the lockout harder to hold still than a bar's.
How to do it
Setup
Standing, feet hip-width, the sandbag across the collarbones, hands on its side handles.
Steps
- Press the bag straight up until the arms lock overhead.
- Hold the lockout still while the fill settles.
- Lower the bag to the collarbones with control.
Common mistakes
Bag drifting forward overhead: finish it over the shoulders, not in front of the face. Leaning back to get it up: ribs down, glutes tight. Dropping it onto the collarbones: lower it under control; the fill lands hard.
Breathing
Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
