Wall Plank

The plank done standing: the hands on a wall at shoulder height and the body leaning in one straight line; the gentlest way to learn the brace.

How to do it

Setup

Standing an arm's length from a wall, hands on it at shoulder height, heels up, body leaning in.

Steps

  1. Walk the feet back until the body is one line.
  2. Brace the abs and squeeze the glutes.
  3. Hold for the time, then walk the feet in.

Common mistakes

Hips sticking out behind: tuck them into the line. Shoulders shrugging up: press the wall away. Standing too close to feel anything: step the feet farther back.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
