Top Pull-Up Hold

Hold the top of a pull-up, chin over the bar, for time; the back and arms work without moving, the strength that finishes every rep.

How to do it

Setup

Jump or step up to the top of a pull-up, overhand grip about shoulder-width, chin over the bar.

Steps

  1. Pull the elbows down and in to keep the chin above the bar.
  2. Keep the shoulders down and the legs still.
  3. Hold and breathe; time it, then lower slowly to a hang.

Common mistakes

Chin sinking below the bar: the hold ends there; step down. Shrugging into the ears: blades down the whole hold. Dropping out of the hold: lower under control.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
