Supported One-Leg Standing Hip Flexor and Knee Extensor Stretch

Standing on one leg with the back foot's instep on a chair seat, bend the standing knee to lower the hips; the front of the back thigh and hip stretch.

How to do it

Setup

Standing a stride in front of a chair, the back foot's instep on the seat, arms by the sides.

Steps

  1. Bend the standing knee and let the hips sink straight down.
  2. Keep the chest up and the pelvis tucked.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Leaning the chest forward: stay upright so the stretch reaches the hip. Standing knee caving in: keep it over the middle toes. Back foot perched on its toes: rest the whole instep on the seat.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
